Vista Murrieta (12-0) Murrieta, CA
Vista Murrieta is another team that hadn't been tested in a while, but
last week they ran into a Norco team that would hit them back. The
Broncos prevailed, but it was a sloppy win full of turnovers that saw
Norco down one score and a chance at an onside kick in the fourth
quarter. Rancho Cucamonga will stand toe to toe with Vista Murrieta this
week.

Bellevue won another snoozer in a blowout win over Peninsula. Mt. Si

DeSoto (11-0) DeSoto, TX
DeSoto cruised past Harker Heights, but there are no free rides in the
Texas State Playoffs. Up next Coppell. DeSoto has played a much tougher
schedule than Coppell this year, so we know how good the Eagles are.

University had a complete victory over Cardinal Newman in a 27-0 win,
but this week the Suns are going to have to buckle the chin strap for

Seneca Valley was going to be a good test for North Allegheny. The
Tigers got an A+ in a convincing 47-17 win. Woodland Hills is next on
the docket, a dangerous team who knocked off Gateway two weeks ago and
avenged a week one loss to Upper St. Clair with a big 42-20 win last
week.

Butler (13-0) Matthews, NC
Butler passed a big test on Friday with a 25-15 win over East Forsyth.
Up next is a Week 0 rematch with Mallard Creek. Butler is the only team
to beat Mallard Creek this year, and the Mavericks have been on a
rampage since.

Mentor (12-1) Mentor (OH)
Mentor has knocked off Top 10 teams on
consecutive weeks with a high power, fast break offense. The Cardinals
scored 63 on then No. 4 St. Edward and avenged an earlier loss to No. 10
St. Ignatius in a three overtime epic win. This week it's another Top 50
opponent in Whitmer. There are no breaks in Ohio.

Grayson had to wait an extra day to see who its opponent would be after
some regional tiebreakers were put in place. Seems Wheeler drew the
short straw to face the rampaging Rams. North Gwinnett is capable
of beating anyone on any night though, so round two gets a little more
interesting.

Good Counsel made good on its rematch with DeMatha for the WCAC
Championship in a 26-14 win. Good Counsel lost its first game of

and they almost did the impossible, knocking off Trinity. The Shamrocks
aren't the juggernaut they were last season and have had to gut out more

not be a forgone conclusion.

Washington's first round opponent was 4-5. Their second round opponent

With McGill-Toolen going out in the round of 16, Hoover has to be
considered the favorite to win it all again in 6A. The Bucs took care of
business against Pell City and will face Vestavia Hills this week in the
quarter-finals. Hoover beat Vestavia Hills 35-15 on 9/28.

It took a quarter for Skyline to get warmed up, but once they did the
outcome was predictable. Camas brings an undefeated record to its
game with the Spartans, and we'll find out if Washington is a two team
state (Bellevue/Skyline) or a three team state. The Papermakers will
look to upset the heavily favored Spartans.

The second time wasn't the charm as Ensworth beat Montgomery Bell
Academy by the exact 35-7 score the Tigers beat them on 10/5.

within seven points of Ensworth this year.

surging Long Beach Poly team who just got done ending Mission Viejo's
season.

Gilman left little doubt this time. Calvert Hall gave the Greyhounds a
scare in a 24-14 Gilman win on 10/22. This time Gilman left little doubt
in a convincing 35-7 victory to claim the MIAA 'A' Title.

Goose Creek had a fight on its hands against a good Bluffton team, but
the Gators moved on to the third round with a solid 35-25 win. Goose
Creek now gets Northwestern in the Semi-Finals, a team that is seven
points away from being undefeated, including a four point loss to Byrnes
on 9/7.

Colerain fell victim to Archbishop Moeller who is playing like the Top 5
team that they were at one point during the season before losing three

finish 12-1.

Whitmer will attempt to slow down one of the nation's hottest teams in

Mission Viejo caught a hot Long Beach Poly team at the wrong time. Poly
lost three straight games early in the season by a combined score of

straight, knocking off one of the nation's top teams.
