Inside Linebackers: C+
The inside linebacker play improved last fall but in a few games they did struggle to get off blocks. In games against VMI, San Jose State, Central Michigan and Texas State they played well. Senior inside linebacker Matt Warrick (93 tackles, 3 int., 3 pass def.) has played his best football in leading the team in tackles this season. He appeared in every game and started twelve. Warrick was never the most physical linebacker but he was more disciplined this year in not overrunning as many plays which he did at times in 2011. Warrick did an excellent job on his pass drops and picked off three passes. He had his best games against the fellow service academies posting season-high eleven tackles in each game.

Junior Cody Peterson moved to inside linebacker after being tried at fullback and outside linebacker. He had to recover from multiple surgeries over his first two years and emerged this past season. Peterson, who played in 13 games, won the starting job with his size and speed and started the last eight games of the year. Peterson did a nice job filling gaps and finished the year with 67 tackles. Senior captain Brye French (79 tackles) played in every game and started six including the first five games of the year. Despite losing his starting job French saw plenty of playing time rotating in all year. Junior Vinnie Mauro (1 tackle) is finally rebounding from the injury he suffered lifting weights during his plebe season. The staff hopes Mauro can make an impact as a senior.
