Cleveland, Mercer Island and Meadowdale all won themselves berths in the Class 3A state tournament Thursday night as the dance card filled up even more. Evergreen and Mount Rainier kept their hopes alive and will fight for the WCD’s third spot.

Cleveland used balanced scoring and a 16-7 overtime period to end Seattle Prep’s season. Banard Banks, Daryl Haskins and Jason Pegues scored 15 each while Sexton brown added 14 and Jamal Weems 13. Michael Knight had 26 in the loss.

Mercer Island hammered Sammamish 69-29. Senior guard Patrick Frost (pictured at right) scored 16, Philip Kaestle added 15 and Kahlil Mathews chipped in with 13.

In the West Central 3A district tourney Evergreen eliminated Clover Park 57-54. Ron Rhodes had 18, Cortlee Harris 15 and Jamaal Collins 13. Shawn Fallow scored 16 in the loss. Evergreen will face Mount Rainier for the final WCD spot to the dance Saturday at Puyallup.

The Rams eliminated Sequim 66-54. Brian Manaway scored 25 and James Cradle added 20. Brady Marunde and Chris Mobley scored 14 each for the Wolves.

Meadowdale got their berth with a 56-35 win over Ferndale. The Mavs outscored the Eagles 30-10 during the second and third quarters. Jake Linton (pictured at left) and Tyler Marsh scored 13 each and Colin Matteson added 11.

In the Northwest 2A quarterfinals Meridian got the Lynden Christian monkey off their backs, beating the Lyncs 62-57 to end a 10-game losing streak to LC. Trevor Gardisky scored 18 of his 21 points before intermission. Cameron Gilmore added 16 points. 6-6 sophomore Kyle Coston had 16 and fellow soph Greg Burgers added 14 in the loss.

South Whidbey bumped Mount Baker 57-55. Kyle McGillen scored 21 and Travis Tornga added 16. Whit Tyler had 19 for the Mounties.
