3A State All-Tournament team

Once again the cream rose to the top at the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington Class 3A Boy’s State Basketball Tournament played last week in the Tacoma Dome. O’Dea once again won the title. But there were some outstanding performances during the four-day tourney.

Here is our version of the All-Tournament team.

MVP: O’Dea senior point guard Mitch Johnson. Mitch doesn’t need too put up gawdy numbers of points to prove he’s valuable. His complete game, court leadership and proven track record as a winner propels him to the top. He does, after all, have two rings.

First Team:

Dustin Jones, Squalicum, 6-3 senior forward. Jones averaged 24.5ppg, most among those who played all four days and got hardware.

Josh Wilson, Mark Morris, 6-1 senior guard. Josh averaged 18.2ppg in leading the Monarchs to second place.

Conor Mullen, O’Dea, 6-6 senior forward. Averaged 14ppg for balanced Irish and got his second state title ring.

Sean Price, Columbia River, 6-3 senior post. His coach says his guys will be playing in the NWAACC. We’d take Price on our team; averaged 21.8ppg for the 3rd place Chieftains.

Terrence Williams, Rainier Beach, 6-6 senior guard. Louisville-bound Williams averaged 19ppg for Beach.

Second Team:

Tygue Howland, Sedro-Woolley, 6-3 senior guard/wing. Senior put 19.2ppg up in four games. Cubs get their first medal in school history.

Tyler Hobbs, West Valley (Spokane), 6-4 junior guard. Averaged 18.2ppg for Coach Jaime Nilles’ Eagles.

Chris Hutton, Mark Morris, 6-4 senior forward. Averaged 15.7ppg and though giving up many inches, defended his tail off in the paint.

Adam Wardell, Sedro-Woolley, 6-2 senior guard. Senior averaged 17.2ppg in his four games in the Dome.

Admir Beribak, Hanford, 6-4 senior forward. Put up 16ppg in four games for medallist Falcons.

E.J. Richardson, West Valley (Spokane), 6-6 junior guard/wing. Big junior guard averaged 14.5 for balanced Eagle squad.

Best three-day performance: Tie. North Thurston’s 6-0 senior guard Colton Monti popped for 25.7ppg while Kennedy 6-3 sophomore DeAngelo Jones averaged 20.7ppg during his three-day stay at the Shed.

Best two-day performance goes to Garrison Carr, Issaquah senior guard. Garrison averaged 29.5ppg for 0-2 Eagles…Can we get the little man some help please!
