The Northwest Summer Pro League kicked into full gear Sunday behind the appearance of a grizzled NBA vet. Former Trailblazer Jerome Kersey dusted off the kicks for Coach Ed Haskins’ Suns squad and showed the young cats how it’s done, putting up 12 points and 12 rodmans in an 84-81 win over the Kings. Find out who else was reppin it during Week 1…

Suns 84, Kings 81: Let it be told: the guard duo of Greg Hendricks and Kyle Keyes gave us the Francis/Mobley vibe from the second quarter on.  The backcourt partners combined for 48 points in the final three quarters, helping the Suns overcome a 35-18 first quarter deficit en route to win #1.  Hendricks finished with 31 points, and the 6’1 Keyes put up Kidd-esque digits with 23 points, 9 helpers, and 5 rebounds.  Former Husky star Brett Merritt led the Kings (0-1) with 26 points, 6 boards, and 2 rips.  Also putting up a fierce stat line was 6’0 PG Antwain Jones with 19 points, 8 dimes, and 3 steals.

Suns (84): Jerome Kersey 10, Greg Hendricks 31, Kyle Keyes 23, M. Bailey 4, J. White 10, Andrew Haskins 6

Kings (81): Brent Merritt 26, Corey Lewis 11, Jamie Booker 9, Antwain Jones 19, Jason Cormey 7, Eddie Turner 9

Spurs 111, Clippers 108: Spurs coach Randy Redwine evidently wants to ensure that no one in his crew feels the Steve Scheffler shaft.  Former UW baller Michael Johnson put up 16 points, leading a balanced attack that saw seven Spurs in double figures and all twelve roster players in the scoring column.  Milton Cooper also contributed some sick numbers for the Spurs (1-0) with 15 points, 8 windexes, and 7 dimes.  Former WSU PG Cedric Clark paced the Clips (0-1) with 24 points, 6 assists, and 2 steals.

Clippers (108): Cedric Clark 24, Joe Jackson, L. McGilvery 23, M. Nowell 18, Michael Claxton 21, David Dixon 13, Harris 3

Spurs (111): Milton Wright 15, M. Johnson 16, Bill Elleby 13, Brandon Chavers 3, Sonjay Noreiga 4, F. Jackson 11, T. Still 10, Justin Murray 12, Jacob Stevenson 6, D. Lewis 6, Brian Dennis 3, M. Ross 10

Mavericks 116, Sonics 103: Facing a two point halftime deficit, Brent Williams flexed some mad game on the Soups during a vicious second half tear that saw the Mavs break away for the dub.  The 6'8 PF scored 18 of his 32 points in the latter half, and added 8 rebounds for the game.  Teammate and former UW star Donald Watts added 25 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals for the Mavericks (1-0), including a nice one handed flush in traffic that the FJ video crew missed taping (our apologies).  Rozell Ellis put together phenomenal numbers for the Sonics (0-1), posting a double-d with 33 points and 12 rodmans.  Damon Williams added 26 in a losing cause.

Sonics (103): Damon Williams 26, Lucious Brown 10, Andre Winston 15, Raymond Butler 6, Darren Valentine 9, Gabe Rapier 4, R. Ellis 33

Mavericks (116): Donald Watts 25, B. Williams 32, David Jackson 14, Jimmy Rainwater 20, Donte 16, Ruben 9
