Liberty explodes in the second half and turns a close game into a rout...

#10 Liberty 38, Interlake 14- At times this game was ugly. The rain made it tough for both of these high powered offenses to get on track. After halftime, Liberty settled down and put the Saints away.

Liberty got on the board early with a 27 yard field goal. Interlake stole the lead on a touchdown run by Brett Kirschner. The drive was sparked by a fake punt that resulted in a 20 yard passing play. Liberty responded on a 24 yard td pass from QB Trey Wheeler to Chandler Jenkins. It was the first of two TD’s for Jenkins on the day. Each team would score one more time in the first half, leaving us close at the break. Liberty 17, Interlake 14.

Both teams had chances to score again after halftime but couldn’t capitalize. It was Liberty that finally hit pay dirt on two Tei Staladi touchdown runs. Jake Bainton would end any hope of a comeback by returning his second interception of the day for a 6 yard touchdown. Giving us our final score… Liberty 38, Interlake 14.

This game wasn’t quite the shootout that it was expected to be. Most of that can be blamed on the weather. Both teams put the ball on the ground more times that I can count. As even snaps became a difficulty for the Patriots. While it wasn’t his finest night, Trey Wheeler was still impressive. Showing why many people have him pegged as the best Junior QB in the state. The win sets up a huge game with Bellevue next Friday night. Both teams are undefeated in conference play and Liberty is looking to end Bellevue’s domination of the conference.
