Junior WR picks up first offer

Steve Sarkisian and the Washington Huskies have hit the trail running when it comes to the 2011 recruiting class, and they've already offered some of the top players in the Evergreen State: Skyline WR Kasen Williams, TE Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and DE Taniela Tupou. On Friday, Sarkisian gave a call to a local standout with the news that he would be the Huskies' fourth in-state offer.

"I got offered by Washington two days ago," Jones told Scout.com Sunday night. "(Coach) Sarkisian called me. He said they watched my film. My coaches just sent them some film. He told me that he thinks I'm the kind of guy that can help them get the program where he wants it to be."

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Jones plays both ways for Graham-Kapowsin High School, but he has been offered as a receiver. According to the Seattle Times, Jones has 17 catches for 283 yards and six touchdowns. He's also run the ball eight times for 129 yards. As a punt returner he's averaging 22.5 yards per kick and taken two of his six punts back for touchdowns.

As a sophomore, Jones had 21 catches for 469 yards and five scores. He also ran the ball 12 times for 190 yards.

So what did Jones tell Sarkisian after the verbal offer was made? "I told him thanks, I was really excited," he said. The Huskies are the first to offer, but Jones added that he's been getting information from LSU, Oregon and UCLA of late.

Jones said he never really grew up with a favorite team, and is planning to take official visits before he makes a college decision.
